weakness

top-vintage (thrifted); skirt-H&M; flats-Joe Fresh; purse-ALDO; necklace-XXI

I've finally come to accept and embrace the fact that accessories may just be my biggest weakness. I know, it;s pretty hard to be that perfect, but I try.
Seriously though, this one I simply could not walk away from, I tried, and tried, but it somehow ended up at the cash register with me; that kind of stuff happens to me a lot.

p.s.- this top, vintage cuz of the tag, and thrifted for 5$ (which I realize for some of you Americans is crazy money to spend at a thrift store, but once again may I remind you that up north we don't get awesome silk tops for much less! We make do with what we've got ;))

no need to fear

blazer-ZARA; romper-Promod; sandals-Nine West; clutch-vintage; watch-gifted; necklace-XXI

It took me a little while to warm up to rompers, but their practicallity has officially won me over. I love a good summer breeze every now and then, and I also tend to dress as light as possible during the (awesome) summer months, BUT those two don't always mix well. There's garments in my closet that I constantly have to hold down as I walk down a breezy street, from fear that my undies will be exposed. That's why rompers are ideal summer wear: light and airy, and the shorts-like bottoms are perfect for those gorgeous summer breezes :)

All that being said, this color is really not my most favorite, but I stepped a little out of my comfort zone and chanced it. (it was also only available in this color and on sale...so really, there wasn't much of a debate)

lovely customer servce

top-H&M, shorts-Joe Fresh, necklace-H&M (Holland), sandals-Graceland, bracelet-vintage

I saw this necklace in an H&M ad in an H&M store in Canada, BUT the sales person said they hadn't received it yet (this is about a month ago; a few days before I left for my trip). That in itself always bugs me a little bit, because I don't like being lured in a store with pictures of stuff they don't even sell (atm that I go in...let's face it, I'm not the most patient person in the world; and when it comes to necklaces like this one, my patience is even less). Naturally, I left bummed out, but secretly hoped I'd spot one of these beauties in Holland (you know how certain chains offer slightly different things in different countries?...yeah, I was hoping to benefit from that)

And that brings me to the most helpful and sweet sales person H&M has ever hired. She ran around the entire 2 story store looking for this necklace, after I asked her, and then chased me down (I thought she forgot about me, so I started wandering around the store). She was polite, all-smiles, and brought me what I wanted :) In short, the perfect sales person!

my inner 4 year old

top-Hemma; skirt-H&M; sandals-Nine West; necklace-Forever 21; bracelets-vintage & NYC street vendor

Like most 4 year old girls, I had a dream of becoming a ballerina (or a synchronized swimmer) and wearing a tu-tu was partially the reasons why I was so drawn to that particular career choice. Although nothing come of that, I always feel somehow extra girly when I put on a full(-er) skirt, such as this H&M steal! My 4 year old self comes out, and I'm easily impressed by shiny things, and bright colors (hence, the almost-neon top).

p.s.- the last pic is supposed to show the castle we see from out balcony! I'm surprised I haven't shown it off before (because it's a must stop for anyone who's ever taken my home tour)

p.s. #2-- Tomorrow is my B-day (birthday; not to be confused with BIG day, cuz that could mean a lot of things). I'm super-duper excited, and I hope to share some of the highlights of the day (such as the fireworks in my honor....jk, they're usually for Canada's birthday, but we share in the excitement)

basics

A navy, V-neck, jersey dress may not be considered a wardrobe basic by all, but I for one think that should change! It's one of the easiest garments to dress up or down, and a good jersey can be a girl's best friend (let me emphasize on "GOOD"- because I'm sure we all know how clingy certain jersey fabrics can be!)

the midi

In the spirit of full disclosure, I attempted to pair this skirt with flats, but it just looked kinda frumpy. I'd love to hear any tips you may have about wearing midi's (btw, weird name, right?!) with something other than 4 inch heels!

for the love of stripes

My infatuation with stripes began a long, long time ago when I was really young and only got a part-say in what I wore. My mom was awesome enough to always ask me what I thought of the 'outfit' options she'd lay out, and would even take some of my least crazy suggestions into account. Every summer she loved to put me in some sort of nautical, striped ensemble, and ever since, as summer approaches I feel more and more drawn to stripes! I just can't pass them up.

feel pretty

Ever since I transition this blog in the direction of 'personal style' ( not really a fan of the blog 'categories' but I guess that's the one this falls under) I've noticed that my choice of outfits varies quite drastically. I tend to know what I like, and what I'd be willing to try, and what I really dislike, but all in all my 'style' is kind of all over the place. That being said, I believe the most important aspect of getting dressed is feeling good about yourself, regardless if that means you're in jeans a t-shirt, or a pleated midi skirt and 4inch heels.

As I've mentioned before, my mood is very responsible for most of my outfit choices. Some days, when I want to feel pretty, I know just the items that make that happen. This dress has quickly become one of my 'pretty' staples. It's lightweight denim, it's a nice length and I can twirl in it! What's not to love?!

tribal-ness

As I pondered over the title of this post the only word that I could think of was 'tribal', hence 'tribal-ness' (had to add the 'ness' because making up words is fun!:)). I love tribal inspired pieces; anything from jewelry, to clothing, to home decor. Luckily for me, the tribal trend seems to stick around summer after summer!
There's just something unique about the intrecate detailing in most tribal artifacts, which are usually the inspiration behind the mainstream 'tribal' things available to purchase. It's not surprising then that when I saw this necklace at Forever 21, I was instantly in love :)

bruise easily

Studying can put a strain on your overall health, through stress, not eating properly, lack of sleep, etc., etc. But, I bet you didn't expect it could actually bruise you! ( I definitely didn't)
Over the past few weeks I've been to a lot of study groups, and on most occasions I just threw on a pair of jeans and did a lot of sitting. Turns out, because of the low-rise/wearing a leather belt + sitting for hours, I actually managed to get bruised on both my hip bones! It's the randomest thing, and I realize it's probably not very common, but I assure you, it's just another strain of studying for finals, so watch out! ( it could happen to anyone...who wears low rise pants with belts, that is!)
That being said, I opted for my favorite wool shorts and tights combo in this outfit, as to give my hip bone bruises some time to heal.
